ABB RPBA-01 is an optional PROFIBUS DP fieldbus adapter module that enables compatible ABB variable frequency drives to communicate with PLCs and other PROFIBUS master devices. In the PROFIBUS network, the ABB drive operates as a slave station.
Through the RPBA-01, a control system can issue drive commands such as Start, Stop and Run Enable, send motor speed or torque references, read drive status and actual values, modify drive parameters and reset drive faults. It can also transfer process actual values or references to the drive’s PID controller where supported by the drive.
The module supports PROFIBUS DP-V0 and DP-V1, automatically detects the telegram type and supports PPO message types 1 through 6. Both PROFIdrive and ABB Drives communication profiles are supported. ABB lists the RPBA-01 as compatible with ACS550, ACH550 and ACS800 drive families.
Communication uses a shielded twisted-pair RS-485 physical interface. Supported transmission rates range from 9.6 kbit/s to 12 Mbit/s, with automatic baud-rate detection. The PROFIBUS connection uses a 9-pin female D-sub connector and includes integrated bus termination.
